Biochemistry

Objectives of the Program

The objective of this program is to gain a better understanding of living organisms through an in-depth study of biology, chemistry, molecular biology, and immunology. It aims to enhance knowledge of the chemical constituents of living organisms and the substances they synthesize. The program also emphasizes metabolic transformations and their applications in disease screening and quality control. Biochemistry can also involve the decontamination of sites affected by industrial waste or other pollutants. The obtained degree provides opportunities for various specializations that require skills in the field of biochemistry.

Targeted Competencies

The curriculum provides a solid foundation of knowledge in biology, biochemistry, and physiology. Cellular and molecular biology, as well as genetic engineering, are essential tools for a biochemist. The program also integrates molecular-level data and highlights everyday applications that help understand cellular mechanisms. The study of reaction mechanisms is supported by the acquisition of methodological skills such as biological and biochemical analysis techniques and proper utilization of quantitative imaging. The program includes scientific English instruction, enabling a broader understanding of recent discoveries through the universal use of this language. The preparation of rigorous scientific papers is based on studying the methodology of bibliographic research. This involves oral and poster presentations on specific topics related to the field of biochemistry.

Regional and National Employment Opportunities

This program prepares candidates for master’s studies or the job market. Graduates acquire valuable work autonomy, which is highly appreciated in various fields such as para-medicine, agri-food industry, and the use of biological or biochemical analysis techniques. The methodology of bibliographic research enables improved written reports and oral communication skills. The competencies acquired through this program allow graduates to directly enter the professional world in the following areas:

1) Hospital or private medical analysis laboratories

2) Pharmaceutical sector for drug control (e.g., SAIDAL) and water analysis and pollution control by the environmental agencies

3) Supervision in local authorities in hygiene and safety departments, fraud departments, and the agri-food sector

4) Research institutions (universities and research centers)

5) Forensic science and customs

6) Teaching positions in middle and secondary schools

Pathways programs

Access conditions and pathways to other specializations are nationally open to all specialties within the field.
